I really never thought this would happen, but it did. And to top everything off he isn’t even the same species. I always thought if she was going to find true love it would be within her species. But I was wrong. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against different species falling in love, I just always imagined there would be another little black & white male Shih Tzu to be a part of her life.
But every night I am witness to the same ritual. I let Riley out for her normal before bed time potty break and she goes and waits at the dog kennel. It’s here that we have made a safe haven for the outdoor cats. And after a couple of minutes he will come out of his little den to great Riley. It’s my cat Nazumi. He is a wonderful big guy, and even though Riley is a very large shih tzu, he is still taller than her! It is the cutest thing to watch as the evening romance unfolds, it’s almost like watching a slightly different version of Lady & the Tramp!
After he comes down and greets her they walk around the yard together for the next 10 – 15 minutes. Then it gets a little too cold and Riley decides to come in the house. This relationship developed after Baby Kitty passed away, so I guess we are still getting used to the idea she is not here. I know Riley has had a hard time adjusting because she lost her play buddy, they loved each other so much. I am hoping one day she can convince Nazumi to come back into the house.
